SEDH 3×01. Moulage: realism in simulation as a learning tool

Next Monday, September 21, 2026 , at 12:30 pm , Simulate is Human returns to Radio UMH to premiere its third season , dedicated to continuing to explore clinical simulation and its contribution to patient safety.

In this first episode, we focus on moulage , a tool capable of transforming a wound, a change in skin color, a smell, or even the atmosphere of a scene into useful information for learning. Because, in simulation, realism isn’t just about something “looking real.”

To find out, we will have Berta Sánchez Ruiz , author and coordinator of the Moulage manual for clinical simulation , and Raúl Rodríguez Romeo , electronic engineer, specialist in characterization and special effects and CEO of EMULANT Solutions , whose career connects engineering, film and clinical simulation.

With them we will talk about how a moulage is designed, what role learning objectives play , how much realism a scene really needs, and what technical work is hidden behind these recreations.

The episode, presented by Sergio Javaloy Ballestero , a clinical simulation technician, is part of the initiative of the Clinical Simulation Area of the UMH (ASCUMH) to publicize the value of simulation in improving patient safety.
