The Sant Joan d’Alacant Campus of the Miguel Hernández University held an Open Day yesterday, September 16, aimed at pre-university students from the province, with the objective of making known firsthand the degrees, facilities and training possibilities offered by the UMH.

The event, organized by professors Nicanor Morales Delgado and José Manuel Ramos Rincón, brought together around 620 students and accompanying teachers from 16 schools , with 116 people involved in the organization . Throughout the morning, a total of 29 workshops were held,  along with information booths and various science outreach activities.

The Clinical Simulation Area of ​​the UMH (ASCUMH) had a prominent presence in the program. Its facilities hosted 8 workshops distributed across 12 spaces on the first floor of the Severo Ochoa building , where students were able to explore different areas of Health Sciences in a practical and participatory way.

The activities showcased the diverse possibilities offered by simulation and hands-on learning. Participants were able to explore content related to clinical medicine, genetics, minimally invasive surgery, and medical-surgical skills, as well as practice responding to emergency situations. These included cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques, initial care for critically ill patients, choking intervention, and assistance with out-of-hospital childbirth. The characterization and recreation of clinical scenarios using moulage completed a program designed for learning by doing.

The development of this event also required significant coordination and preparation. ASCUMH technical staff collaborated in organizing the spaces, setting up and fine-tuning simulators, materials, and equipment, and were responsible for conducting the moulage workshop.

The event allowed prospective students to see how clinical simulation, technology, and practical training are part of an education aimed at developing skills in a safe, participatory environment that is close to real-world healthcare.
