SEDH 3×02. Virtual patients with AI: new teaching experiences
Next Monday, October 19, 2026 , at 12:30 PM , “Simulating is Human” returns to Radio UMH with the second episode of its third season. We begin a series dedicated to the use of artificial intelligence in simulation, exploring concrete experiences and what we are learning by bringing them into the classroom.
In this first installment we will focus on AI virtual patients: characters with a medical history and a way of expressing what is happening to them, capable of answering the student’s questions during a text conversation.
To learn how these technologies are used in undergraduate teaching, we will be joined by Francisco José Sánchez Ferrer , a pediatrician at the Doctor Balmis University General Hospital in Alicante and a tenured professor at Miguel Hernández University. With him, we will explore an experience in which medical students practice pediatric interviews with virtual mothers and fathers.
We will also be joined by Sandra Morales Sabuco , a tenured professor in the Department of Health Psychology at UMH and a member of the AITANA research group. She will tell us how they use virtual patients in Psychopathology clinical practice and how they have begun to explore their potential for assessing learning.
With our guests we will discuss character development, the role of teachers during activities, and the next steps for studying learning and improving these tools.
The episode, presented by Sergio Javaloy Ballestero , a clinical simulation technician, is part of the initiative of the Clinical Simulation Area of the UMH (ASCUMH) to publicize the value of simulation in improving patient safety.
We’ll be waiting for you on Monday, October 19th, at 12:30 pm on Radio UMH. Because behind every good simulation, every detail can tell a story.
We invite you to tune in to Radio UMH and discover with us how clinical simulation is transforming healthcare education. Simulation is human , and we want to share it with you!
