OSCE 6th Medicine 2026: a key day to assess clinical skills

Last Saturday, June 6, the University Hospital of Sant Joan d’Alacant hosted a new edition of the Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) of the Degree in Medicine of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche of the 25/26 course, one of the most relevant teaching activities of the academic year due to its ability to evaluate in an integrated way the clinical skills acquired by the students throughout their training.

The test, organized by the Faculty of Medicine and coordinated by Professor  José Manuel Ramos Rincón, was held in two morning shifts, between 7:30 and 15:30, and had the participation of 100 students who went through the 14 stations designed to assess essential skills for professional practice, including communication skills, clinical reasoning, physical examination, decision making, procedures and patient safety.

The preparation and execution of an OSCE of this nature requires a significant effort in coordination and logistics. This year, more than 50 people participated, including standardized patients, evaluators, faculty members, and technical support staff, whose involvement ensured the smooth running of the day. As in previous years, the success of the exam was made possible by the close collaboration between the Innovation and Technological Planning Service (SIPT) and the Technical Support Service for Teaching and Research (SATDI) , along with the faculty of the degree program and the professionals involved in the evaluation . This coordination is essential to guarantee the quality, reliability, and standardization of a highly complex assessment process.

Furthermore, the administration of the exam again relied on OpenECOE , the platform developed by Miguel Hernández University for the organization, monitoring, and evaluation of this type of exam. Its use facilitates the management of exam circuits, the collection of results, and the coordinated work of evaluators and academic staff, contributing to the optimization of an exam involving numerous participants and resources simultaneously.

From the Clinical Simulation Area, we would like to express our gratitude for the dedication and professionalism of everyone involved in this OSCE 2026. Their commitment allows us to continue offering a rigorous, objective, and competency-based assessment, contributing to the training of future physicians prepared to face the challenges of clinical practice with confidence, professionalism, and quality care.

Congratulations to the students, faculty, standardized patients, and technical teams for the excellent work done!
