ASCUMH holds the first OSCE of 2026 for the Degree in Medicine in its new facilities
On May 13th and 14th, the Clinical Simulation Area of the Miguel Hernández University (ASCUMH) successfully held its first OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) of 2026 for third-year medical students. This activity, part of the Integrated Workshops II course, was coordinated by José Manuel Ramos Rincón, Professor of Clinical Medicine at UMH .
The exam also marked the first OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) held at the new ASCUMH facilities following the 2025 renovation. The OSCE was structured into two rounds of five dynamic, in-person stations. Four of these stations featured standardized patients, and one had evaluators, recreating different clinical scenarios. The assessment was further enhanced by two virtual stations accessed via the Moodle platform, designed for solving clinical cases in a digital format, thus reinforcing the exam’s blended, practical, and competency-based approach. Over two consecutive afternoons, a total of 120 students encountered patients with joint pain, infection, fatigue, and gynecological conditions, and had to demonstrate their competence in basic surgical skills.
As in previous editions, the organization and development of the OSCE involved nearly 40 professionals, including standardized patients, evaluators, and technical staff from SATDI (Technical Support Service for Teaching and Research) and SIPT (Service for Innovation and Technological Planning). This multidisciplinary team’s coordination and commitment are fundamental to ensuring the proper development and quality of an assessment of this nature.
